Nestled near Hororātā in Canterbury, Te Waiora is a Christian retreat centre that has long offered a peaceful home for rest, reflection, prayer, and spiritual renewal. For years, individuals and small groups have come to this quiet place seeking restoration and connection with the living God.
Just ten minutes away, Glenroy Lodge brings a complementary vibrancy - a spacious, communal setting for camps, retreats, and group gatherings. Operating since 1947, Glenroy Lodge has welcomed churches, youth groups, and community organisations, carrying a rich history of shared experiences and spiritual formation.
Both Te Waiora and Glenroy Lodge were originally established as Christ-centred spaces where people could step away, breathe deeply, and spend time with God. Today, they continue to hold this shared purpose: places of rest, renewal, and relationship for people across Aotearoa.
Now, these two sites are entering a new chapter.
A rare and meaningful opportunity has opened at Te Waiora - a chance to live and serve within a newly forming resident community. Baptist Resources Ltd (BRL) is inviting individuals, couples, and families who feel a stirring of call to be part of this unfolding story.
BRL, a charitable company working alongside the Upper South Baptist Association to provide practical leadership, property management, and strategic guidance for sites like Te Waiora and Glenroy Lodge, was recently gifted the two properties. In the months that followed, a small working group gathered in prayer, conversation, and quiet listening-listening to one another, to local voices, and to God’s gentle leading.
Out of this time of discernment, a shared vision took shape: a resident community that would nurture the spiritual heartbeat of Te Waiora and Glenroy Lodge and help sustain both places for generations to come.
